Badwater Basin
Saturday, October 26
Today we woke up at 330a to catch our flight to Vegas. As always, traveling with Kelly was an adventure but we arrived on time and got lucky with our campervan available for an early pickup.
After grabbing the van, breakfast, supplies, and some last minute cold weather clothes, we headed to Death Valley to try to catch sunset. Our stop for the afternoon was Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America at -279ft. This was our first time to visit and we could not believe the size of the salt formations. We took a page out of Holly Cloud’s book to take our shoes off and reconnect with the earth, all while getting a fantastic foot scrub.
The weather was absolutely perfect so we ended up staying to catch a night full of shooting stars and the milky way. The day finally caught up with us around 930p and we headed to Furnace Creek to camp for the night.
Pro Tip: If you find yourself visiting, walk well past where most people are stopping. We think it was a solid 1/2mi to a full mile. You’ll know when you get there by the larger formations and lack of people.
