The Covid Chronicles
The Covid Life
The above shot was a storm that rolled in around the beginning of the shut down. It’s even creepier that the city is just so “dead”. No lights or sign of life in a city that is usually full throttle. We’ve spent most of our time hanging out in the apartment, watching Darcy grow, spending time on projects we normally wouldn’t have time for, and trying not to kill each other during the day when we are both trying to get work done as Darcy blows around like a tornado.
One very cool experience was a double rainbow sunset. I think this was the week after the first week of shutdown when everyone was losing their minds. We all know the stories, so I am not going to touch on them here. It was fun to see all the apartment dwellers looking out of their windows at the rainbow with genuine excitement and happiness. We also had one week that gave these beautiful cotton candy sky sunrises for three days in a row. I managed to make it to the rooftop to capture one of them in time.
Otherwise, life has been per the norm with plenty of coffee and cookies in our lives. If we could just get a little camping in, life would be all good.
The Darcy-Dumplin Duo
Enter Dumplin. Our new neighbor. Darcy’s new best friend. Wild to the core. A lover of all potted plants and dirt. We were really hoping our new neighbors would bring a dog Darcy would get along with since her first best friend had moved out. As you can see, these two are quite the duo. Dumplin is 10lbs soaking wet, and it’s really fun to watch the two play like they are the same size. Dumplin plays up her size, while Darcy is a little bit of a push over. Half the time Dumplin has Darcy pinned to the ground by her neck.
Some of you might be wondering about the sweet shirt and patch on Darcy’s hip in the pictures below. Long story short, I took Darcy to throw the ball at the park for a few minutes before dinner, and we ended up heading to the the vet shortly after to get stitches in her chest and a new hairdo. She was playing with a bigger dog (one I was least concerned with) for most of the time we were there, when it just snapped out of nowhere. It lasted maybe four seconds but ended up doing some good damage. She then got chased by another a**hole dog while she was scared. I chased them to the end of the park and picked up Darcy to try to settle her down. Needless to say, she was ready to go home and be done with the park.
After that night I don’t think there is a mean bone in Darcy’s body. She’s a lover through and through. Although she’s not a fighter, she has shown no sign of fear around the park or other dogs, big and small. This was what I was worried most about after we got her healed up. I think Dumplin has really helped with this, too.
Neighborhood Nature Walks
Like almost everyone out there, we have spent more time in our neighborhood than I think we would like…and we love our neighborhood. I have also become a professional macro flower photographer, like everyone else. While nothing special, I still like some of the shots I got while being within walking distance of our apartment.
